Oh my gosh, we have a whole second tub of ornaments we haven't taken out of the attic since we moved to LA. Should probably go through those and get rid of most of them.
Enjoyed this new vlog and I can relate to the dreaded put-away-the-ornaments event! I wrap only the really fragile ornaments, because I'm usually low on tissue paper or don't have the patience. Mny of them are pretty resilient, ha ha. This year we made major headway by donating a few that we've stopped using on the tree (it was getting rather overloaded...). Three good things: 1) found a recipe for no-sugar added banana bread that was actually delicious, 2) kept up my morning pages journal routine all week, and 3) made a friend at the Farmers Market. It's the little things ☺️
I have a lot of hallmark ornaments and they get put away in their boxes which is always a ton of work. Many of the non hallmark ones get wrapped as well.
One good thing: the power outage we have is forcing a clean out and defrost of our chest freezer. It needed it and it’s always a pain to do.
That’s fantastic, Eva! I don’t know the first thing about sewing but I always thought it would be like a super power to be able to make your own clothes.
Agreed! I’m a total newbie, having failed twice before (early 20s and late 20s) to develop it as a hobby. This time I’m approaching it from a much more relaxed angle & I’ve discovered two local thrift stores devoted to fabric, so I’m hoping the combination of those two things mean it’ll stick this time! I just cut out the pieces for a dress today. :)
I'm really curious to hear how it feels for you, especially since you're already such an accomplished knitter. Sewing, to me, seems less meditative and more "active" somehow. Maybe it scratches a different creativity itch?
Definitely less meditative for now, but also it’s been a long time since I was beginning knitter, lol. So I’m reminding myself to have a beginner’s mindset, trying to go in without a lot of ideas about how long things ‘should’ take (it took me an hour and a half to cut out the dresspattern pieces for instance) and expecting to make mistakes.
I’ll let you know if it becomes more meditative over time! It’s a bit trickier to get into the flow state than knitting or spinning or embroidery, because there’s a lot ‘sew these seam, then get up and iron this stuff, then pin these other things together’ vs doing one thing repeatedly. I suspect hand sewing has more flow potential.
1 good thing) Fully cleaning my kitchen for the first time in months.
2 good things) I’m about 1/3 through a novel, Night Film, for the first time in many years! I loved mysteries as a kid, and this is such a fun read.
3 good things) Finished the first digital collage for my first zine, an ergodic memoir. Your vision board has also inspired me to collage a digital vision board! (I don’t have access to image-centric magazines where I’m living).
I don’t have any Christmas ornaments right now, they’re in storage back home, but I will have them next year. Growing up, we stored our delicate ornaments in foam trays that looked almost like giant egg trays. I think the rest just went loose into small storage bins 😅 It makes sense why your ornaments have survived so well. Taking notes 😊
I hear you on the kitchen cleaning. It can be so hard sometimes and seems never-ending. Good job, seriously!
Your zine sounds amazing and hooray for fun-reading. After I finished my English degree, it took me years to rediscover my love of reading, but now I don’t apologize for even the most ridiculous of novels. Take joy where you find it.

That's some serious looking-on-the-bright-side there! I don't have the boxes for our Hallmark ornaments anymore, They get wrapped along with the rest.

None of my ornaments are fragile, so I don’t wrap them, but my mom wrapped hers!
One good thing: I finished sewing a skirt, my first!
