Every night, there’s a moment when dinner is finished, the dishes are done, the cat is curled up sleeping peacefully, and I take a moment to breathe. This is when I make myself a cup of licorice tea, pull out my notebook, and log my day.
It isn’t a productivity habit—although I think it does help me be more productive. It’s more of a mindfulness habit. I write down what I wore, any meditation or exercise I did, and then list everything I accomplished (even if the “accomplishment” was just taking a shower or a nap). Sometimes, I sketch out an image from the day. Other times, I add some stickers or washi tape. Occasionally, I just make the list and call it good.
The important part isn’t how beautiful the page is, it’s the recognition that this day happened. and I was here for it. There’s nothing like losing someone you love to make you realize how important every single day can be. It’s corny to say, but I know firsthand that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.
It’s been fun over the past few days to watch the video I made about my day logging and other ways I use my notebook take off on YouTube. If you’re here because you discovered me through this video, welcome! If you haven’t had a chance to watch yet, here it is.
Keep scrolling after this letter for a sneak peak into what’s coming next. And if any of this—the video, this newsletter, something I said in the past—has hit home with you, let me know in the comments. I love hearing from you.
Until next time, I’m wishing you love and joy and all those good things,
Jenn
Coming Soon:
Next week’s video is about my “summer list.” I am not a fan of summer, but this year, I took some time on the solstice to make a list of the things I do like about the season and I’m trying my best to do those things before the days start to shorten, in a month or two. If you have a YouTube account, you can subscribe there and click the notification bell to get an alert as soon as the video comes out. Otherwise, I’ll be sure to link it in your next newsletter.
Every Wednesday afternoon, you can join me for The One-Hour Creative Retreat
at 4pm Pacific. Bring your journal, sketchbook, or a craft project you’re working on, and join me for an hour of focus and flow. If you’re not available for the live event, no worries! This button will work for the replay too.
